We use tag and category pages as part of our SEO strategy. I know that many people end up noindex-ing these pages or even ignoring them, but we think they are far too useful to exclude from our overall SEO plan.
But Category Pages Have No Open Graph!
To this end we need to be able to associate an Open Graph image with each tag and category page so that when these pages are posted to Facebook, a nice image appears at full size in the people’s newsfeeds.
If it doesn’t then we won’t get as much engagement on our specifically SEO’d tag and category pages when we post them.
Normally I use the SEO Framework plugin which you can get from the WordPress repository.
This plugin is great for posts and pages but offers nothing at the moment to add Open Graph tags to category and tag pages.
Genesis Club Now Provides Open Graph On Category And Tag Pages
All you will need to do is install the SEO Framework and also Genesis Club Pro or Lite.
How Does This Help You?
If you’re using a Genesis child theme you will be able to use the power of your category and tag pages to super boost your SEO. Genesis provides all the tools you need to transform generated category and tag pages into useful, visitor-focussed information pages.
With the Genesis Club plugin, you will be able to further enhance these pages to make them stand out on Facebook when your links are posted there.
For example below is the same post, posted to facebook, but in the first case it was posted before a specific social media image was set up for it, and in the second case, after an image was created for the post and specifically assigned as the social media image.
It is better to assign a social media image as the post becomes more shareable and clickable, and is less likely to be overlooked.
