I make a lot of videos and don’t always have the time to transcribe them. By transcribe, I mean create a text version of each video or audio for those who either prefer to consume text-based content, or for those who maybe have hearing disabilities.
There are a couple of ways you can go about getting a transcription.
Use A Reliable Fiverr Resource
You can send your video and audio files to a professional transcription service. The cheapest ones are on Fiverr, and the person I always use on Fiverr is Annabelle.
Fiverr is good if you have a lot of transcriptions to do. But what if you only have one or two video or audio files to transcribe each week? It might be easier to do it yourself, or find someone in your family or home office to do it for you.
Use Google Docs
This is what I do now. It’s not perfect but it saves me time when I don’t want to wait for the turnaround time from Fiverr. With a small amount of work (which is offset by not having to wait at all) I can get the transcription right now.
I use Google Docs for this.
In this case I applied the video transcription to the video as an .SRT file to allow for closed captioning. I have also included the transcription, here below.
Here you can see I’ve got an Adobe Audition file which is a file of my voice which I use to apply to the videos I make.
So this is a typical sound file that I would have to transcribe. The way I’d normally do this with Google Docs is simply go to Google Docs and once I’m there just get into a brand new Google Doc, like this and give the document a title and then once I’ve done that simply look under the Tools menu. And see where it says “voice typing” – just click on that.
And then if I click on the microphone and it turns red it’s time to playback the sound file and Google Docs will do its best to translate that into text. Now it’s not perfect not by a long way – but it gets you 80% of the way there, and then that’s a lot less work, you just have a few typos to fix.
You could fix these yourself or outsource the whole process to someone else.
I’ll try and demonstrate.
This demo site has Altitude Pro on it and if you notice it got lots of horizontal sections – it’s a typical storyboard theme, and you can see that the text in each of these sections has large and generous margins on the left and right.
We’ve added in this blueprint another widget area to the end of the page and this has been specifically place here and noticed that when I put text in it the text doesn’t have those generous margins and this means that we got an edge to edge widget area and it means also that if you want to put a foreground image into that widget area it can also stretched edge to edge.
Sometimes you’ll find this useful you might want to put a map for example into this widget area or some other special graphically lead content that would look best in the foreground and stretched edge to edge and in that case this blueprint will help.
