I call these trust symbols, but you can call them logos or association trademarks or anything you like.
This video show you how to place tiny, clickable logo images at the bottom of each of your site’s pages using the plugin Genesis Club Pro.
If you don’t want them to appear on every page, then you can control this with the Widget Logic plugin.
This video is about creating a footer area at the bottom of every page that shows your trust symbols. Now these could be associations you belong to or other such things. Now I’ve made up some symbols here – I’ve got 6 of them here and basically they have to all be the same height. They don’t have to be the same width but they must all be the same height.
I find a height of 50 pixels works quite well but if you can make it smaller that might look even better maybe something like 30 pixels in height. I’ve actually done 50 pixels. Now notice they’re all exactly the same height but the width can vary.
I’ve set-up a test dates here and as you can see if I scroll down all I’ve got is the standard Genesis Club Pro footer there at the moment. No special parameters have been added to that, it is just as it comes if you don’t do much with it.
And I’m going to add these trust symbols at the bottom alongside the existing copyright statement.
One thing to think about when you’re putting these trust symbols at the bottom of your page is that you could link out to each association’s website from each trust symbol.
I wouldn’t do that if I were you but you could do it and the reason not to do it is because you’re leakoing link juice all the time when you do that and that’s not good for your SEO so rather than that it might be better for you to link internally to a page you set up and then list all the associations on an internal page and that’s what I’ll show you how to do in this demo.
So what I’ve done here if I created a page called my trust called “My Trust Symbols”, now obviously you call it something more sensible than that, and on this page I could go ahead and list all the little images for the trust symbols, and perhaps a paragraph about each.
I won’t do that because I’ll leave you to do that but basically you’d create a page that describes each of your associations or logos that you wanted to list here.
The important thing to do though it to make a note of the URL for this page which would be in my case for this and use that when setting up the trust symbols in the footer.
Next I’m going to upload each of my trust symbols. Remember I need them all the same height so I’m going to go into my media library and click on add new, and then I’m going to select the files. I’ve got 6 of them so there they are, and I’ll wait for those to upload.
Now the URLs of each of these is going to be exactly the same except for the file name on the end so if I just edit the first one and grab the URL from that, that’s the URL of my first Trust symbol.
OK so in my dashboard the next thing I’m going to do is go to “links” and then link categories, now you may well have nothing here but I’ve got one called “Test”. What you need to do is create one called trademarks or associations – it’s up to you – but I’m going to call mine “trademarks”.
OK, there it is. And then just add new link category. And that’s where we’re going to put all the individual Association links. OK so next within the link area on the dashboard here, click on “add new” and we’re essentially going to add each of our associations now.
Supply a name for the first one. You’ll probably give it the name of the actual trademark or association, but I’m just going to call mine logo-1. And in the web address – this is where you want the link to go when someone clicks the little symbol. Now as I explained before you really don’t want to be going off-site, so if you made a note of that page that you made earlier, as I did, you should have a reminder of that URL there.
So this is the page I made earlier which is an internal page where I’m basically going to link every single trust symbol. So I’ll just put that in there.
Next you have to select the appropriate category and in my case that would be the trademarks category. And then down here you put the image address that I also made a note of my image my little trustmark here when I uploaded it to the media library so that’s that one, and I’m just going to put that in here.
And that’s about it. So if we now click on add link that will add the first one.
Next you just keep doing this for each of them so in my case I’m just going to say logo 2. Now the web address is going to be the same internal page, like that, and the actual URL of the image will be exactly the same except it will logo-02 on the end in my case.
Put it into trademarks and then down here logo-02 and add that too. Now I’m going to keep doing that until I’ve done all 6.
I’ll come back when I’ve done that.
Now that I’ve uploaded all 6 of my logos you can see under the links heading here here they all are all in this category.
If I go to my homepage and do a refresh – let’s just have a look – you’ll see that nothing’s changed and that’s because we haven’t dragged a widget over. So to finish off we’ll just go into the dashboard and then into appearance/widgets – and over in the credibility footer, I’ve already got the Genesis Club copyright widget.
Now I just need to add the Genesis Club trademarks widget.
I’ll do it by clicking like this, clicking on add widget and get rid of one. OK. So now I’ve the two widgets here. One’s a copyright and one is this trademarks widget.
To use it I just open it up. Make sure the category selected is “trademarks”, and order by , well you can order by all sorts of things you can have them change order randomly or by title. I’ll just leave it by title.
And as I’ve got 6 of them I’m going to put 6. Now you can choose to “show it on all pages” or “only on landing pages” or “hide on landing pages”.
Now I’ve left it at “show on all pages”, but I actually only want it on my home page so I’m going to put into the widget logic box, now this box will only appear if you’ve installed the widget logic plugin, so do that if you want to do this. And simply I’m going to type “is front page” and then two round brackets so “is front page” like that, then hit save.
What that should do if give me my trust symbols on the homepage only and not throughout the site.
So now if we go and refresh this home page, here are my trust symbols. As I hover over each one they all link to that internal page that we specified. You don’t have to do that but I think it’s probably more sensible than linking out.
Now if I go to a different page so let’s just try this blog post here and scroll down to the bottom because of widget logic we don’t have the trust symbols. Now you don’t have to do that you can have them on every page if you want to but I think it’s better just to keep them on the home page or maybe some other page if you’ve got a special page for trust symbols. Up to you. That’s it.
